A H1N1 flu pandemic is looming closer with Africa reporting its first case while the number of cases in Australia soared to nearly 500 confirmed cases from just one case one case just a fortnight. This makes Australia the Asia-Pacific region's worst affected country and the fourth largest worldwide. According to figures by the World Health Organization (WHO), 64 countries have officially reported close to 19,000 cases of A(H1N1), including 117 deaths. Experts however say there is no suggestion yet that the flu outbreak has taken a life of its own, while pharmaceutical firms race to find a vaccine and the WHO warns the world to be ready for the H1N1 flu to become more severe. |
