Mexico reports 2 more swine flu deaths; toll at 97 AP - Saturday, May 30 MEXICO CITY - Mexico is reporting two more deaths from swine flu, bringing the country's toll to 97. The Health Department says that 5,029 people have been sickened nationwide. That number includes the 97 deaths. Almost three quarters of the people who died had other complications, such as diabetes, heart disease or respiratory problems, health officials said Friday. The virus that has sickened more than 13,000 people in 48 countries and been linked to more than a 100 deaths worldwide has largely subsided in Mexico, where it was first identified in late April. But Mexican officials have said the confirmed toll has been rising as scientists test a backlog of samples from patients. |
